How to split bachelorette and bachelor trip costs fairly
Plan a bachelorette or bachelor trip without money awkwardness: agree what is shared, cover the guest of honour, track who paid what and settle up with the fewest transfers.
Group trips go wrong over money more than anything else. Agree the rules before anyone books, and keep one shared record of who paid for what.
Agree the rules up front
- Which costs are shared by everyone (house, activities, group dinners) and which are personal.
- Whether the group covers the guest of honour's share, and which parts.
- A rough total per person before anyone commits, so nobody is surprised later.
Record every payment
Whoever pays for something logs it with the amount and who it was for. At the end, each person's fair share is compared with what they paid.
Settle up with as few transfers as possible
Instead of everyone paying everyone, work out who is owed and who owes, then match the biggest debts to the biggest credits. A group of eight usually settles in a handful of transfers.
Collect a deposit for the house or flights at booking time. It keeps the organiser from carrying the whole cost for weeks.
