Wedding budget questions

How should I split my wedding budget?

The biggest share almost always goes to the venue, food and drink, often close to half. The calculator starts from a common split (45% venue, food and drink, 12% photography and video, 8% each for attire and flowers, and smaller shares for the rest, including 5% held back for surprises). It is a starting point, not a rule: change any line to match what matters to you.

Why does it ask for the guest count?

Guest count drives most of the cost. The calculator shows the all-in cost per guest and the venue, food and drink money per guest, which is the number to compare against a caterer's or venue's per-person price.

What is the buffer for surprises?

Tax, service charges, tips, overtime and late additions turn up in almost every wedding. Holding back about 5% keeps them inside your total instead of on top of it.

What does 'Still to find' mean?

Add each person or family chipping in and how much. The calculator subtracts it from your total, so you see what the two of you still need to save, or by how much the pledges are over.

Does it save anything?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is stored or sent. Print the split before you close the page, or keep it going in the wedding budget spreadsheet.
